Philosophy
The fetus is subject to the environmental influences.
The mother is physically and
psychologically the “mediator”
between the baby and the world. (Bertin, 1994 p3)
| - |
The fetus is sensitive, sensorial, and has an affective conscience capable of prelogical and preoperational learning and consciousness based on instinct and intuition, based on instinct. |
| - |
A new born baby brings with him nine months of experience and exhibits individuality in body, temperament, and personality that distinguishes him from any other human being. |
| - |
Parents strengthen their own relationships during prenatal bonding. Delivery, breastfeeding and attachment are easier and reduces postpartum depression. |
| - |
Welcoming a new baby is an experience that is supported from pre-conception planning through infancy and beyond. |
| - |
It is never too early to begin paving the way for healthy attachment, attunement and reciprocity. |
| - |
It is also never too late to develop healthy parenting skills and develop a healthy bonding relationship. |
Prenatal attachment is defined as the
relationship between a pregnant woman and fetus.
“Attachment relationships are formative because
they facilitate the development of
the brain’s
self-regulatorymechanism” (Fonagy & Target, 2002).
Regulation and coordination of emotion and internal organization is interpreted through affect regulation and operates at a internal non-conscious level.
Synchronized attunement and rhythm, embodiment,
awareness, intention, love,
sensory awareness, are
all necessary for healthy relationship development.
These
mechanisms, “coordinate inner body signals
to generate survival-appropriate
inner regulation that allows
the organism to act as a coherent whole.” (Churchland, 2002)
Attachment is the basis for the foundational beliefs about self and how to function in the world.
